Election Season Calendar 2006August 30 - Deadline to Register for Primary Election September 19 - Primary Election Day October 18 - Deadline to Register for General Election November 7 - General Election Day
.... is all the time you have left to register for the Massachusetts Primary Election! In 2004 Boston Mobilization had a vibrant youth voter project called “WeVote!” During 2004, We Vote! worked to inform, register, and motivate young people to vote in the Boston area. We created educational packets and informational teach-ins to foster understanding of governmental structure and the importance of voting. And we sponsored some awesome events, like Van Votes where local Hip Hop and Spoken word Artists toured the city in a van covered with graffiti, registering people to vote. We worked in coalition with many different local and national organizations and student groups and had a lot of fun in the process. Everyone was saying that the youth in this country don’t vote, but we DO vote! We are fighting for our lives and our future, and voting is one of the tools at our disposal. Now it’s time to make WeVote! a permanent part of Boston Mobilization. In an area where there are over 200 colleges, youth should rule! Or at least have a say! The midterm elections are coming up, we have a gubernatorial race that is drawing national attention, Boston is now a “minority/majority” city that just elected a forth person of color to the City Council under the banner of “team unity”, and there are many exciting third party ballot and campaign reform initiatives on the ballot. We are looking for someone to be the lead organizer of this project and help put together a team and map out a program over the summer, to be ready for the elections this fall and beyond. We will be working with groups like Boston Vote, The League of Pissed Off Voters, the Public Policy Institute etc. and various grassroots community and youth groups to form an exciting and comprehensive program that will give young people a permanent electoral voice to be reckoned with. This is not just a summer internship. We are looking for someone who lives in the Boston area and is willing to make a minimum of one year’s commitment. A small stipend may be available, and hopefully with the skills and results you will bring to the project, we will be able to make that stipend grow! Skills needed: To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to Eve Lyman: eve.lyman@bostonmobilization.org WeVote! was a project aimed at informing, motivating and registering college students in Boston, Massachusetts during the summer and fall before the 2004 election. Since the election WeVote! has morphed into No Mandate! WE VOTED!!! WE KNOW THAT MAN HAS NO MANDATE! When WE VOTE, we preserve and strengthen our liberty and our freedom.
While one vote may seem like a flickering star in a vast galaxy, when joined with others, a blazing sun is formed and the brightest light is cast across the globe. The goals of most citizens in these United States- for satisfying work, enlightening education, pristine health, civil treatment from authority, a clean planet- are shared by many others across Earth ’s nurturing surface. Yet many caring and concerned souls are silenced under the muzzle of overbearing authority. Here in the U.S.A. we have many freedoms- to speak up and speak out, to enter our opinions into the marketplace of ideas, to organize, to VOTE. However the only means of protecting and preserving on e’s freedoms is to exercise them! And even in the Land of the Free, many of our supposedly untouchable and irrevocable rights and liberties have been slowly eroded since their establishment some two-hundred odd years ago. Consider the following fundamental treatise: The Government will abuse the People if the People do not control the Government. This simple doctrine of human relations has proven itself throughout human history and reigns true today. The PATRIOT ACT alone serves to reinforce how vital it is to participate in the political process. We must hold elected officials accountable for their actions and elect candidates that have greater respect for the people. For these and numerous other reasons ... WE VOTE! |
