Weekly meetings held Fridays in the Mobe office. "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." George Orwell Information is the key to a democratic government. Accurate information will allow the public to make informed decisions that will benefit their local and global community. As members of a democracy, we have the opportunity and responsibility to exercise our freedom of speech. Activism must work to change the current corporate structure of the media. We have to make sure that if there are 100,000 people living in the streets, then the rest of the world must know. The Grassroots Media Project is dedicated to producing and promoting alternative and creative forms of information dissemination. The GMP uses all media of communication at its disposal to present an honest interpretation of current events and to provide avenues for global citizens to get involved in their local communities. The Grassroots Media Project trains Mobilization interns to develop their own media and to use the mainstream media to communicate a progressive message. Mobilization interns have been interviewed by The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek, and Pacifica radio. Mobilization interns have also appeared on Quintelevision and the Montel Williams Show. Responsibilities of Grassroots Media Project interns have included writing press releases and communicating with reporters, contacting musicians for an activist-themed concert, and designing materials such as bumper stickers, flyers, and informational pamphlets. |
